In-depth editorial assessment, with the aim of guiding the author to improve the text.
Delivery of a detailed report containing: an overview of strengths and weaknesses; advice on structure, style and content; and a recommended editing strategy.
Development editing
Editing with a focus on structure, content, and other ‘big picture’ issues. Steering the author to complete any in-depth rewriting themselves.
Delivery of general notes and queries, plus a manuscript annotated with illustrative edits, advice and questions to consider.
Copy-editing
Thorough line-by-line editing with a focus on spelling, grammar, style rules, clarity and consistency.
Delivery of a fully annotated manuscript, a style sheet, and any more complex issues highlighted for the author’s review.
Proofreading
Full read-through and mark-up of typeset text, with a meticulous eye for detail – catching any typos, inconsistencies or layout issues.
Ensuring the text is perfectly polished and print-ready, in its final stages.
My rates vary depending on word count and complexity.
